When I started doing craft fairs, I realized that I needed business cards. As I didn’t want to put my name (long and Polish) on the cards I need to think of a name for my “business”. I also wanted a name that would not be craft-specific in case I changed my mind about what craft to pursue or in the event that I would add another craft to my repertoire. As it happened, I named my craft “business” after my email address by just adding the word “crafts”. When I thought of the email address I wanted it to be something about me but something that would never change, which is how I came up with “chicagoborn”. Although I no longer live in Chicago, I am very proud of having grown up there and that my Dad was a Chicago Policeman for 22 years. Many shoppers have commented on my “name” which I enjoy. After all, it is an aspect of how my craft and I have come to be who “we” are!

I handcraft primarily beaded jewelry (earrings, charms, bracelets, watches and kilt pins) but I also make bookmarks, suncatchers and rosaries which I do not consider jewelry but are crafted similarly.

I put a lot of thought into my business name and got feedback from friends and family. I finally decided on the name “Little Visions Photo & Jewelry Art” because I use small photos in my jewelry-making. I picked the word “visions” because it has so many different meanings. It alludes to things like visions that the saints have, visionaries, my own personal vision of the way I see life, and also my physical vision, without which I wouldn’t be able to see to take photos at all! I also wanted to have a business name that encompassed both my jewelry-making and my photography work, thus the “Photo & Jewelry Art” part of my name. I’m really glad I picked the name I did, and many times I simply shorten it to “Little Visions.”

I think that’s an extremely adaptable name, Ann, that will be able to grow with you!
