Bead Journal Project: June

I’ve started on the last season of my BJP pieces! Three full seasons are complete, and now I’ve got the first one for the summer group (June, July, and August) finished. Yay!
Each month, I’m choosing a fragment of scripture from one of the Psalms and using a heart shape to create a little 4 x 4 inch beaded piece that illustrates the feeling of that verse for me. Here is my piece for June:
Psalm 92:4
I sing for joy at the works of Your hands
Here are the three completed sets: Autumn, Winter, and Spring

Another month gone, and another BJP piece finished! Three full seasons are complete now as well, and I’ve only got the three pieces for summer left to do.
Each month, I’m choosing a fragment of scripture from one of the Psalms and using a heart shape to create a little 4 x 4 inch beaded piece that illustrates the feeling of that verse for me. Here is my piece for May:

Psalm 150:6
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Here are the three completed sets: Autumn, Winter, and Spring

Make Art Monday!
I’ve been experimenting with some elevated beadwork, a very different style to what I normally do. I learned this particular style of raising the work from Nancy Eha, and it’s opened up some new avenues of exploration for me. Here’s a detail:

It’s not too appropriate for most clothing, since the “petals” are only hooked down in three spots…it would be too easy to snag them on something and rip the whole thing out! But it’s a fun application for quilting

As usual, I am stuck with no name for this piece. I’m not entirely happy with the results either. I thought that I wanted some of the petals to hang over the edge of the quilt (you can see them on the left), but now I don’t really like the way it looks. I’m trying to decide whether or not to add another strip around the quilt edge…what do you think?
There are some extra process shots here if you’d like to see more!

Finally, in between many other projects that had deadlines, I finally managed to get this necklace finished. It was really just a matter of getting the straps finished up, but sometimes life just gets in the way!

Each month, I’m choosing a fragment of scripture from one of the Psalms and using a heart shape to create a very simple little 4 x 4 inch beaded piece that illustrates the feeling of that verse for me. Here is my piece for April:

Full moon poems to share

I received a delightful message from Sharon at Watermark. She wrote:
Cyndi, I just discovered your blog, and your moon journal project from last year.
I wrote a full-moon poem every month last year. Your journals are so wonderful, and brought that exercise back to me. If you are interested, you can find my poems in the category “Moon Poems” at Watermark.
If I had found you sooner, I would have asked your permission to post photos of your work with my poems, or at least linked to each one, each month.
Such gorgeous work!
I would urge you to go and read Sharon’s poems if, like me, you find the full moon intriguing and enchanting.

Sometimes I’m embarrassed to show you the stages before a necklace is finished, but with this one, I know just where it’s going and I’m really excited about it!

I’m thinking of an ocean theme, since I’ve been using paua shells and pearls, and have been constructing these three dimensional barnacle-like thingies. As usual, no name has come to me yet.

Make Art Monday!
Lucky lucky me! One of my designs was accepted by Belle Armoire Jewelry, and can be found in the current issue, Mar/Apr 2008. A Stitch in Time is the piece that I told you about months ago…I used some of my friend Melanie Brooks’s fabulous steampunk inspired ceramic links and cabochons.
The article teaches you how to make the faux leather fabric that the piece is stitched on, how to bead and wire the links, and how to assemble the whole piece.
