Charm swap rules:

* Create up to five original charms. Keeping in mind that the charms will later be a part of a piece of jewelry, please keep them to 1 1/2″ in diameter or smaller.
* Your charm must be free of any text or images that are protected by copyright, unless you have the expressed written permission from the person or institution that holds the copyright and you provide that written permission with your submission.
* Attach a jump ring to each charm.
* Fasten a card to each charm’s jump ring with your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number. Please type or print clearly. (This is for our internal use only.)
* Include a SASE with your charm(s) and an entry fee of $5 (U.S. and Canada) and $10 (all other international). All funds must be in U.S. dollars and made payable to Interweave. Swap participants, including international residents, may charge their entry fee to their credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Please include the necessary information, including the expiration date and CVV code.
* Your charm(s) must be in our offices by April 13th and we will “swap” them by June 1st.

Awhile ago, I showed you the charm that I made for a collaborative project with other mixed media artists; the finished product in the Ties That Bind project will be auctioned off to benefit ovarian cancer research. The handmade doll that is being constructed will have decorated ties around her waist to form a skirt, and many charms all around the bodice.

Our mission is simple in concept. Artists united in their creativity to benefit Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Our project: Ties That Bind. A hand made doll created with heart and soul, donning hand embellished men’s dress ties and hand born charms. 100% of the profit goes to the OCRF, in support of their mission to help ovarian cancer patients and their loved ones.

I wanted to show you some of the ties that have been coming in. They are going to make one amazing art doll!

How could I ever say no to my friend Aileen Roberts? First she flatters me by asking me to participate in a collaborative project with other mixed media artists, some of whom I know and others whom I’d like to know, and then she tells me that the finished product will be auctioned off to benefit ovarian cancer research. How could I ever say no then? My own mother is an ovarian cancer survivor. I am honored and delighted to take part in the Ties That Bind project.

I made a charm to help embellish the torso of our doll, and am thinking about making another if more are still needed. Teal is the color for the ovarian cancer ribbon, so that’s why I chose these color accents. It’s called For RuthAnn (my mom):
