Knitting for dummies…

Make Art Monday!
One of the best ways I’ve found to take a break from intricate work is to grab my huge “dummy” knitting needles and mindlessly make a scarf out of some sort of fabulous yarn.  For this one I used a Louisa Harding yarn called “Sari Ribbon”.
Most of the time when I do this, I end up sitting in front of the TV, sort of half-way watching junk and not paying too much attention to my needles. I only knit – don’t even purl – so that I really honestly don’t have to think. By the end of the …read more

Unisex Quickie Jewelry Gifts

Funny how I managed to get “unisex” and “quickie” in the same blog post title, huh?
But, I’m talking about cell phone charms again. Not only can these be unisex jewelry items depending on the materials you use, but they are nice quick projects, a little something to tuck into a stocking or give out to co-workers which won’t cost you a lot of time or money. Here are a few projects I’ve already created for cell phone charms.

Felt and Chain Mixing It Up

Felt and Chain Mixing It Up

I have a new felt and chain necklace project posted on my About.com site. The felt is actually rope felt that I got from Ornamentea.com – Very unusual stuff. The large linked chain used in this project also came from their web site.
It’s pretty hot outside, so it’s kind of hard to imgine wearing felt right now, but come winter time (especially up north) I think we’ll be seeing a good deal of felt jewelry this season.

New Supplier Discovery

Actually, I can’t say these guys are new or even new to me because I’ve seen ads before for Ornametea.com in various beading and jewelry magazines for years, but I just really started looking at their site after being contacted by the company to check out some samples, including someof their very cool fiber beads.
They have kinds of interesting fiber beads, such as felt and crocheted beads, very “in” now with all the rave going on concerning mixed media jewelry.
In fact, their site is really a mixed media jewelry haven, including all kinds of interesting stampings, metal findings in brass, …read more

Felted Beads

Felted Beads

When I first received this book to review from Interweave Press, I wasn’t sure what to think about it. I love fibers and so always thought felt making would be fun, but felted jewelry? Seemed like a stretch to me at first.
Now, granted, my personal jewelry taste as far as what I wear on a daily basis tends to be conservative. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable with a big felted flower wrapped around my neck. But, one of the extra cool things in this book is the idea of making felted beads. Now, that has some major possibilities.
For a …read more
