The Viking God, Thor
Thor, the son of Odin, was the favored deity of ordinary men & women who wore his hammer amulet in celebration of births, voyages, deaths and any occasion to celebrate. His hammer was named Mjöllnir (“crush”) He was first of all god of thunder just like Zeus & Jupiter. He was also god of the sky, rain and agriculture; hence his popularity to the mainly farm population. His name is still commemorated in English by Thursday and in French by Jeudi (jovis dies). He rode the skies in a chariot drawn by 2 goats, Tanngrinost (“tooth-grinder”) and Tanngrisni (“gap-tooth”). He was far more understandable and approachable than the mysterious, complex Odin.

Thor’s Hammer
In the mythology, Thor’s Hammer is the most enduring symbol of the Vikings. Its name is associated with thunderbolts and with it Thor defended the gods against their foes. As you will see in the Pendants section of Viking Trader, there are many versions of Thor’s Hammer.

Beautiful work! It behooves us to remember that the Vikings, while scaring the panties off of everyone in Europe and some of Asia for centuries also had a magnificent warrior & exploratory culture & civilization, Cyndi. Their exploratory achievements put just about everyone else, except the Ancient Egyptians, to shame. I wish we had just a few drops of that kind of courage in our souls, now – we would be colonizing the solar system!
My husband’s friends talk often about the correct way to colonize Mars. Science geeks…you gotta love ‘em!
Been one since 5 years old – had a telescope and everything. Could recite the names of the planets and many stars, etc. by the time I was 7. Also heavy into Science Fiction, one of my first literary loves at age 10, Cyndi.
To the Stars !!!
I’d love to be in that talk fest. I’ve always thought underground first, until we start terraforming the planet.(Say that to him, he’ll say its too obvious!) LOL
I’d volunteer to go – I hope to in my future lives!
And, yes, that could be turned towards beading, easily :
A necklace of a cascade of stars, planets, galaxies. Called “Queen of stars”
LOL
