This little gadget is called a melon baller. It was originally designed to do just what it’s named for, scoop out little balls of melon. But here are some more things you can do with it:
1. Use a melon baller when preparing an apple. Scoop out the top and the bottom before slicing the apple in half. Then scoop out the core using the baller.
2. Scoop out little balls of ice cream to make a fancy dessert.
3. Make little balls of butter for guests.
4. Remove the seeds from small tomatoes (halved).
5. Carve out balls from other fruits (strawberries, watermelon) for garnishes.
6. Scrape seeds and “strings” from a squash (halved).
7. Cut a hot pepper in half and remove the seeds and ribs with a melon baller.

Use with play dough. My son loves that one. I don’t recommend it for eating though
I use them to form truffles when making up my annual Christmas goodie bags.
It’s amazing what you can do with one little gadget isn’t it? I’m suddenly hungry for melon.
Thanks for the additional tips! I love little gadgets that have more than one function.
Julie, I also want to make little balls of melon myself.
