I get email newsletters from one of my favorite stores, Linens N’Things, and it’s always fun to see what’s new. This week, I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that they now carry the AeroGarden
by AeroGrow International. I blogged about it last year here. It’s an automated mini-garden for the kitchen, built using NASA technology. Herbs and even vegetables can be grown without dirt, weeds, pesticides and messes. It’s really a mini-greenhouse that can sit on the windowsill or a kitchen counter. Even better, seed kits are available! It’s easy gardening at its best.
Here’s the entire blurb from Linens N’Things:
Grow your own delicious herbs and vegetables in your own kitchen. The revolutionary NASA-proven space age areoponic technology uses no dirt to grow plants 5 times faster and can produce a harvest of fresh herbs and salad greens in 28 days.
The AeroGarden extends the growing season to 365 days a year without the hassle of weeds, pesticides, and mess. Through a Plug ‘n Grow Bio Dome Seed System, pre-seeded grow pods are enclosed in their own mini-greenhouse for ultra-fast seed germination; often within 24 hours. The Bio-Dome Seed system comes pre-seeded for dirt-free, kitchen gardening. The Aeroponic Optimizing chamber creates a near perfect rainforest growing environment with 100% humidity and a highly oxigenated growing chamber bathed with ideal levels of nutrients and water for maximum growth. The computerized “Smart” Garden technology combined with the Micro-processor guarantees 100% success through a built-in reminder system that automatically alerts you to add water and nutrients, automatically turns the included Full spectrum, energy efficient lighting system on automatically, adjusts nutrient delivery, light cycles and water flow for specific plant types.
Features
* Aerogarden garden kit grows lettuce, herbs, tomatoes, petunias, and more
* Includes the AeroGarden, 2 daylight spectrum bulbs, pre-seeded bio-dome grow pod, time release nutrients, and tending and harvesting guide with recipes
* Self-monitoring system adjusts for best growing conditions
* Automatic alerts notify when more water or nutrients are needed
* Organic-based, 100% natural tool requires no dirt or natural light; grows 5 times faster than soil
It’s no secret that I would love one of these. It’s one of the 10 things I dream about for my kitchen. Now that it’s available at LNT (and hopefully my local store already has it), the dream is that much closer to fulfillment! Yipee!

I purchased an aerogarden with the herb seed kit at the same time as a friend purchased a kitchen herb garden kit that grew in pots. We both started the gardens at approxmatly the same time, both took care to follow the instructions, both took time to talk to and care forthe plants – well she did I didnt have to.
Within a week all of my herbs had sprouted, hers took 2weeks for everything to sprout. I had basil and thyme available to cook with in 4 weeks, Dill, mint, and parsley in 5. The pot grown garden took 7 weeks to produce the first harvestable basil and now 3 months later still has not produced enough of the others to be worth harvesting.
I routinly harvest more herbs than I can use from my Aerogarden so myfriend has been using my herbs instead of the ones she purchased for growing.
The only problem I have seen with the aerogarden is that it is too easy to use and grows much faster than I can keep up with, I have to trim and throw away more herbs than I cook with because they grow so fast. when I reorder seed kits I intend to order another garden aswell so I can try the tomatoes and peppers.
Searching their website I have been unable to find some kind of rooting agent so that I can start from cuttings instead of seeds.
