Keeping the Castle

Be Your Own Interior Decorator at DesignMyRoom.com

I used to play Sims a lot, just to be able to design the rooms and houses of my characters. Now, I can do the same thing online at DesignMyRoom.com. This site is sooo addictive.

DesignMyRoom is touted as the “easiest, most fun tool for designing interior spaces”. You can upload your own room, or use one of their templates. There are thousands of products to add, including paint, window treatments, furniture and fixtures. One of the nicest features is the product list that you get when the room is done. I could spend hours decorating and redecorating rooms in my house, without spending a single dime.

It’s a great place to try new color combinations or decorating ideas. And if you run out of ideas, you can browse the Designer Studio, which features professional interior decorators.

  1. I love your dream homes and the green home. One suggestion is to use different decoraters to get different decorating ideas and tips. Also, this could appeal to a broader viewing audience. Thanks for the homes and the shows!

  2. I just wanted to let you know, the “designmyroom.com” website, described in your article, no longer exists. I had been a member of the totally wonderful, completely unique website for several months and probably spent at least an hour or two per day designing, sharing my designs with other members, and getting their feedback by way of the “star” grading system. I haven’t enjoyed anything that much in a very long time.
When you “google” the site, page after page with articles and testimonies (like yours) appear and it seems that no one has been made aware that “designmyroom.com”, the original, no longer exists. When you log on, Armstrong Flooring appears. They advertise the ability to design rooms, but all you can really do is select flooring and ceilings. The furniture and accessories are already there. It’s so sad. I really don’t understand how they can identify themselves this way? I know I am not the only member that feels this way and are desperate for it to return.
Maybe, sites like yours, and the opportunity to “comment” regarding “designmyroom.com” will make a difference or at least inform the public what has happened. I have given up on getting any help from people like “Swatchbox”, “Point Click Home” etc. Who were advertised affiliates of the original website.
It will be sorely missed, as there is absolutely nothing else on the web that offers what they did.
Thanks from all the “would be designers” out there that loved the website and wish it would return.

I too, was an active member of designmyroom.com and the Armstrong replacement is nothing like the original. I have never enjoyed a website so much in all my years online. Not only was it able to allow me to see how finished designs may look in my own room, I could purchase the items from the vendors who sponsored the site. I spent hours a week designing and I’m fortunate to have saved most of my designs, right before it closed shop. I’m very saddened that I can’t find another similar website out there.
