butter

Beyond the salt content, there are a couple other differences between salted and unsalted butter:

Unsalted Butter

Salt content: almost none
Shelf life in refrigerator: 3 months
Flavor: sweet, fragrant
Odors from other food in refrigerator: picks up odors readily

Salted Butter

Salt content: about 1/4 teaspoon per 1/2 cup
Shelf life in refrigerator: 5 months
Flavorl: less sweet, more savory
Odors from other food in refrigerator: salt masks odors
