Clearing Away the Messes

If you’re like me, there are a few messes here and there in your home. It might be a pile of papers that need to be sorted, a cluttered cupboard, or a linen closet in disarray. My messes are always in the back of my mind. They don’t interfere with daily life, but they need to be dealt with in order to have a more orderly home.
Tasra Dawson shares her method for cleaning the messes that steal so much from our lives:
1. Make a list of all your messes. It doesn’t matter whether your list is short or long. “Overcoming denial is the first step to recovery.”
2. Organize your list of messes by room, importance, or difficulty level.
3. Decide which messes you can handle on your own and which you need help with. Label them S for self and O for others.
4. Begin wherever you feel most comfortable. You may want to start with the small messes so you can get them off the list quickly, and give yourself a sense of accomplishment.
5. The key is to make progress. Start ticking those messes off your list. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you, as long as you keep working on your list. Tasra began with 64 messes and whittled it down to 40 after 2 months.
This is another item to add to the homemaker’s list of lists. But this is one I’m going to work on ASAP.
