Corelle Dinnerware

We recently switched to Corelle products for our dinnerware. For years, we’ve used ceramic plates. But recent events (ie., the addition of kids to the family) called for a change. We needed unbreakable plates that were also microwaveable, dishwasher-safe and lightweight. Something that could withstand an aspiring drummer’s attacks with a metal spoon and fork.
Corelle seems to be just what we need. Their products are made of Vitrelle, which is glass that is specially processed:
In our one-of-a-kind manufacturing facility in Corning , New York, we thermally bond three layers of glass together, form the shapes and then temper the glass to give it its final strength. Our beautiful patterns also withstand the test of time. That’s because we use only food-safe enamel pigments that are fired directly onto the dinnerware. You’ll never need to worry about the pattern fading, scraping, scratching or wearing off.
I love that these plates are stackable and take up so little room in my cabinets. I also like their clean and timeless designs. I’m hoping that these are the plates my kids will grow up with.
I know that the Corelle brand is rather popular. I’ve seen them used in many households. Do you have some in your home too?

Oooh! I’m gonna hafta get me some of these! We’ve switched to some plastic plates recently (because little ones get excited and like to try to toss them from the table. grrr), but they are definitely not microwave proof. They get super hot. My mom still has some Corelle in her house from when we were growing up. Sturdy stuff!
Well, there’s the proof we need, Kerri. If your Mom still has those plates, that must count for something.
Corelle items should be included in baby registries.
