Developing a Laundry Routine

A few days ago, I asked if you all had a laundry routine. Some of you may only wash the laundry when there is nothing left to wear, some of you may have one day a week that you wash, and others of you may be on a schedule of washing one load each day.

I try to wash one load each day, but life happens. Things don’t always go as planned. I don’t always do one load of laundry every day. It is important though to stay on top of this necessary chore or it will start mounting and seem impossible to conquer.
No matter what laundry routine works best for you, it is important that all of the laundry gets put away immediately. Each load needs to be sorted, washed, dried, and put away. Don’t just leave it sitting in the dryer or laundry basket collecting wrinkles. Hang up the clothes or put them away in their proper place. I know you don’t want to put away the laundry. It’s such a boring task. To get through it, I sometimes remind myself that it will only take five minutes and then it doesn’t seem so bad. What’s five minutes? It’s not much when you consider you won’t have wrinkled clothes or your cat won’t lay on them. lol
I realize some of you work full-time and struggle with the laundry. To help out with this, try throwing a load in the washing machine as soon as you get home from work. It can be washing while you’re cooking dinner. Then after dinner, you can throw the load in the dryer. Or if you have delicates to wash, put those in the washer while you’re getting ready for work and then hang them to dry before you leave. If you make this part of your routine, the laundry chores will go much smoother.
Stay tuned for more information about laundry. We’ll be talking about sorting the laundry, stain removal, and getting the kids involved. In the meantime, do you have any laundry tips or scheduling advice?

I try to put a load in every morning when I get up. If we’re not going to be home, sometimes I do it later in the day, or skip it and catch up the next day.
Laundry and dishes never seem to be done. I try to do a load or two everyday. I found that air drying my clothes on a clothes drying rack actually makes the process go faster since I do not have to wait for the clothes to dry in the dryer. I simply hang my wet things directly on hangers on my racks then when they are dry I take them directly to the correct closet.
