Five Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

A few months ago, my friend forwarded an email to me for Five Minute Chocolate Mug Cake. I finally decided to try it today. It doesn’t require many ingredients and you probably have most of them at home.

Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons oil
- 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
- A small splash of vanilla extract
- 1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)
Directions:
Add dry ingredients to the mug (flour, sugar, cocoa) and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Add the milk and egg and mix thoroughly. Add the chocolate chips (optional) and vanilla and mix. Cook mug in microwave 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
I was concerned that my mug was not large enough, so I cooked my cake in a 2 cup measuring cup. It was plenty big and I’m sure the results were the same.
My thoughts: This cake is no where nearly as good as an oven baked cake, but it is very comparable to a Betty Crocker Warm Delight and it is much cheaper! I drizzled some caramel sauce over mine to make it taste better. I found the cake portion to be too much for me. I shared it with my daughter. I think you could add some different items to the cake to change it up a bit.
Have you tried the Five Minute Chocolate Mug Cake?
