Food for Grieving Families

As I mentioned last week, my grandmother was in ICU and wasn’t expected to live. She passed away Friday evening on May 15. Yesterday we had the funeral service and today the burial.
Usually when there is a funeral, there are many people to feed. Throughout the past few days, we have had about 20 family members here at my parent’s house. As you can imagine, feeding this many people can be extremely time consuming and expensive. Thank goodness for caring neighbors and church family.

Throughout this week, neighbors and church members have brought over so much food to us. Each lunch and dinner, we simply pulled out the prepared dishes and enjoyed the foods that were provided for us.
I just want to remind you all of how much it means to receive food during a time of grief. It is such a blessing knowing you don’t have to worry about cooking and feeding everyone. Of course, cards, prayers, and words of encouragement are special as well.
Have you been a recipient of someone’s kindness? How did it help your family?

Karen,
I am sorry for your loss. It is such a blessing when people help out during a time of need, especially during a death. When my father died we where overwhelmed at the kind generousity of everyone. We were also pleasantly surprised by what they brought over…of course there was bread, ham and homemade baked good, but there was also a homemade tomato salad from their garden, papergoods, stamps, and things for my children to help keep them occupied. we loved it all, no matter how big or small the jesture.
My deepest sympathy for your loss. I hope you had many opportunities to hug your grandmother and tell her how much she means to you. She is forever in your heart and everytime you think of her it will be like getting one of her hugs again
Be at peace.
