Helpful Tips for Moving, Part 1

As I mentioned earlier this week, we finally closed on the sale of our house. We’re moving in this week, so moving is about the only thing on my brain. It’s very consuming and exhausting. There are some ways to make moving a little bit easier. Here are some tips that might help.

1) Get organized. Keep a notepad handy for all the things you need to do. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and forget some of the extra tasks that you need to do. A “to do” list will help you stay focused.
2) Pack ahead of time. If you have a choice, there is no need in waiting until the last minute to pack. Start by packing the things that you don’t use regularly such seasonal decorations, clothing, and wall hangings. During the last week before the move, you should only have necessities left to pack.
3) Label your boxes well. Simply writing “kitchen” just isn’t enough. After the move when you’re looking for your casserole dishes, you don’t want to hunt through 15 boxes before you find them. It’s worth the extra effort to write something like “kitchen silverware” or “kitchen pots and pans”.
