Homemaking Tips from Bloggers

I’m finding lots of homemaking tips from bloggers lately. Here are useful posts from two of my daily reads:
Stacy Julian talks about how she keeps her home of 4 boys and 1 baby girl organized with clipboards and popsicle:

1. She made a summer fun clipboard showing her family’s plans for this summer.
2. To assign daily jobs to her 4 boys, she writes them down on popsicle sticks. Each kid pulls out one daily. Weekly jobs on different-colored sticks are also pulled out each Monday.

3. Mini-clipboards are used to hold weekly checklists. Each kid has to check off his chore for the day before he can play.
Julie at Declutter It shows us how to organize our laundry room. She lists these needed equipment for taking care of clothes:
Place to fold clothes like a small table (I actually prefer my bed. It makes a great laundry folding table!)
Sorting baskets for each category: lights, whites, darks
Stain removal products, laundry detergent, fabric softener
Stain removal guide
Care instructions for certain clothing
Zippered mesh bad for delicates
Drying rack
Iron, ironing board, starch, water for the iron, etc.
Trash can
Plastic tub for pre-soaking items
Small container to collect treasures found in pockets (It’s like Christmas when I let my kids go through it to retrieve their belongings. I’m going to start charging them though!)
A line to hang garments on hangers when pulled fresh out of the dryer (helps reduce those wrinkles).

What great ideas. I especially love the use of popsicle sticks. Never would have thought of that one.
Julie, This is a good idea… Im drowning in the clutter and unorganization of my own home. I have 4 kids, they are 14, 13, 11, and 3… We just moved and I’m afraid it’s going to take forever to get it all done right… Will I lose my mind first…? Thanks, Ashley
I like the popsicle stick idea! I have created a Summer Chore Chart of my own and the kids are doing well with their job of the week plus their daily chore. They look forward to their free day the most.
It has taken me years to get rid of 50% of my physical junk. And I find I don’t miss it one bit. The manufacturing guys over at Evolving Excellence also commented on home clutter this weekend.
