Keeping the Castle

Lemon Essential Oil Disinfectant Spray

It’s a new year, and I hope you’ve had a happy celebration welcoming 2008. To start off this year at KTC, here’s a little something I’ve learned recently.

I really like the smell of lemon and lemon oil. It turns out that lemon oil is a natural disinfectant. At my MOPS group one time, we made a disinfectant spray using lemon essential oil.

Here’s a recipe for making one: Fill an 8 oz. spray bottle with distilled water, and add 25 drops of lemon oil. Shake well, and use as a spray on counter tops, faucets, doorknobs, bed linens, etc. Wipe with a clean towel as desired.

I love the clean smell this leaves. Better yet, I know that it’s safe even if I get it on food items or surfaces that come in contact with food.

I love mixing 1 teaspoon lemon essential oil with a tablespoon of liquid castile soap and a 32 ounces spray bottle of distilled water. Makes a great all-purpose disinfectant cleaner for kitchen and bathroom use. Actually safe for any use. Cuts grease on the stove, cleans counters, sinks, crayon off walls, everything. Still safe enough to clean toys and highchair tray.
