Keeping the Castle

My Ongoing Yard Sale Pile

Some friends of mine have confessed to me that they still have their kid’s baby toys.  Some still have the baby clothes.  These are people whose children are 8-12 years old.  Sure, I can understand hanging on to a *few* momentos.  The key word being “few”.  What I don’t understand is people that are hanging on to stuff just to have it.  It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

I can hardly wait to get stuff out of my house.  I know that I have way too many posssessions, but if there’s something that I know I’m not going to use anymore (such as baby toys and outgrown kid clothing) then I’m eager to see it go.

Many folks have a yard sale once each year.  They go through all their closets before the big sale and try to decide what they can do without.  For me, I have found that an ongoing yard sale pile works best.  Each time I come across something in my home that I know we can’t use anymore, I put it into the pile.  I keep the pile in my garage.  I try to put the items into the boxes and sometimes I’ll even take a few seconds to price the items before they go into the boxes.  This makes the yard sale day flow much smoother.

What do you think of this yard sale system?  Do you think it would work for you?

  1. That’s a good idea, I just never seem to work up the gumption to hold a yard sale LOL!

I am going to have my first yard sale this saturday. I’ll let you know how we did.

I did have a garage sale pile for several years on our front porch, but the only problem was there was always a pile of “stuff.” Lately I’ve just been donating things, or just throwing them out. It feels better for me to not have the stuff around at all.
