New Tricks for Cleaning from USA Weekend
Ah, spring time! It brings delicious anticipation of warmer days ahead. Flowers blooming. Lawns needing mowing. Spring cleaning. Er, maybe not anticipation of the latter. But there’s something about the change in the weather that gives me more energy to get the house in order.
USA Weekend’s feature called “New tricks for cleaning” feeds right into the urge to get at those chores. I love this list of tips. Here’s some of my favorites:
- Clean soiled toys, combs, shower caddies and lots of other stuff in the dishwasher, using regular dishwasher detergent.
- Spray WD-40 on marks caused by pens, crayons or scuffs on the walls. Dena Querubin-Blizzard, of Real Simple Television, says those marks will wipe right off with a damp sponge.
- To remove stains inside a dishwasher, fill the detergent receptacle with white viigar or lemon-flavored Kool-Aid. Run the dishwasher as usual.
- Clean cloth or plastic lampshades under a shower. Leave them in the tub to dry.
