One More Way to Boil an Egg

I thought I’ve talked about all the possible ways one can have the perfectly boiled egg. You could use the old-fashioned timer method, get a fancy egg cooker called the PerfEGG, or let the egg tell you when it’s done. There’s also a new high-tech way to get the yolk just the way you want it, and without using water too! The Bulbed Egg Maker (BEM) will even cut off the top of the egg for you at just the right height for “toast soldiers” (whatever those may be).
The BEM was invented by 23 year old British student Simon Rhymes.
The egg is lowered into the machine, which has four halogen bulbs. In six minutes it produces an egg with a runny yolk – although the time can be altered for a softer or harder result.
Once the egg is done, the top is cut off at a circumference of 40mm – or 1.5in) – which Mr Rhymes says is perfect for soldiers.
He says he has patented the design and is now seeking investors and manufacturers for the product.
Mr Rhymes added: “Hopefully, the machine will become a common household item like a toaster.”
All this trouble to boil an egg. I guess the Bulbed Egg Maker would appeal to someone who wants ONE perfectly boiled egg every time. This cooked egg does look exceptionally good, doesn’t it? I wonder if a multi-egg BEM could be developed.

Here are some trivial facts to make your day an egg-cellent one!
600: The number of eggs Simon experimented with before discovering the perfect time he needed to cook an egg.
250: The temperature in Celsius that the four halogen lights in the BEM reach to heat the egg. When the lights go out, the egg is cooked. The cooking time can be altered if you prefer your yolk runny.
78: The number of calories in a medium-sized egg.
13: The day in October when egg lovers can celebrate World Egg Day.
4.93 billion: The estimated number of egg-laying hens in the world.
53.4 million: The number in tonnes of table eggs produced in 2002, with 20.25 million tonnes produced in China, which is the world’s largest egg producer.
