Keeping the Castle

Our Family Rules of Cleaning

Each family has a set of rules and expectations for keeping the home clean.  Some families like everything put into it’s proper place, some have a loose ‘anything goes’ philosophy, and some fall in the middle.  While I like a neat and orderly house, I have a 3, 5, and 10 year old so it’s really hard to keep up each day.  I’m working on nagging teaching them these rules.  Maybe one day it will stick into their brains and all will be good.

Here’s a list of expectations that we have in our home.  If these were all done today, I probably wouldn’t be so annoyed.  At least it helped me to think of something useful to tell you all today.  ;)

1)  Make your beds each day.  It doesn’t have to be perfect.  I’d settle for pulling your covers up and making it look somewhat neat.

2)  Put dirty clothes into the hamper.

3)  Boys – Put the seat up when you potty.

4)  If you sprinkle when you tinkle, then you will be cleaning it up.  I learned this one early when I was teaching.  It only took 1-2 times of having someone in the class clean up their mess for the rest of the class to learn.  After all, no one wants to sit or step in your mess!

5)  If you get something out, put it away.

6)  Take off your shoes when you come inside.  This is a new one since we live in a wooded area and the floors were getting so dirty so quickly.

7)  Keep up with your stuff.

8)  Close the shower curtain.

9)  Put the toilet seat and lid down when you’re done.  We try to keep the cat from having  good time.

10)  Help out when asked.

What cleaning rules do you have in your home?
