Keeping the Castle

Plants Gone Wild

I dread them. My garden software describes them as vigorous spreaders. From a single specimen comes countless offspring that eventually take over the entire space, overpowering all others.

Here are ways to avoid having them in your garden:

* Before taking a plant home, learn what the plant is and how it grows.
* Beware the self-sower. Some are easily pulled, but others are tenacious.
* Descriptions such as vigorous or aggressive mean trouble.
* Be careful of taking pretty plants from the roadside.
