Post-Christmas Musings

For several years now, we’ve celebrated Christmas pretty much the same way. Christmas Eve is spent with my in-laws and relatives who come and visit. We have our feast, open gifts, and have family photos taken beside the tree. We pretty much stick around as late as we can, waiting for Christmas Day to arrive, before we all head home. Then we make overseas calls to more family members. This can last anywhere from minutes to at least an hour.
Christmas Day, of course, we wake up very late. We lounge around in our pajamas, having a little bite of breakfast here and there. We open more gifts, which leaves a lot of wrappers and new toys and clothes flung every which way. We take more photos. Then it’s a bit of a rush to get out the door, after showers and such, to get to my in-laws again, in time for some lunch. There might be the same people from the night before, and whoever wanted another round of feasting. Then it’s an afternoon spent watching TV, and playing with all the kids, and chatting.
Back at home, we have a light dinner and try to clean up a bit. This year, we added something new. We lighted an advent wreath, reading a part of the Christmas story with each candle. I hope we’ve started a tradition that we’ll continue for years.
The house is pretty much trashed, though we’ve been able to clear out the wrappers and boxes. But it’s a good kind of mess, one that is evidence of joy and much blessing.
I hope your Christmas was warm and full of love.

We have exactly the same kind of good mess. We’re going to wallow in it until new year, I think.
Happy holidays Maricar!
