Sewing Project: Tool Wrap

It’s been several weeks since I started knitting, and I’m still enjoying it very much. I’ve made several scarves and one hat. I’ve even ventured into the scary world of double-point needles! Because of these projects, I found myself the owner of several sets of knitting needles, and nowhere to store them in.
At first, I just put them in a basket with my yarn, but quickly found that it wasn’t enough. The needles became tangled with the yarn. I was always hunting the pairs down.
To the rescue came Kaari Meng’s The French-Inspired Home. One of the projects in this book is a tool wrap, and I made one just like it!
Tada! My little knitting tool wrap:

I’m rather proud of myself for making this because I have not sewn in years! Just like knitting, I learned how to sew in grade school and high school. But I never really took to it. I was so happy to find out that I still remember the basics. This tool wrap is very easy to make anyway, it’s just straight sewing and no measuring at all. I did cheat a little bit, and chose a fabric with lines to make sure my sewing was straight (LOL).
Here’s how it looks inside:

I wanted to use hemp fabric (just like the wrap in the book), but found that hemp fabric is not so easily obtained here. So I used a 100% cotton fabric and flannel for the lining. After I embellished the front of the pockets (see the buttons below!), I starched and ironed the entire thing to give it some stiffness.

This is a great way to use some of those ubiquitous white buttons, which I have tons of!
I also made a shorter one that could fit jewelry-making tools. This wrap is totally adaptable for any sort of tools that you might use regularly around the house.
