Shopping for Once a Week Cooking

Having a week or two’s menu planned out helps tremendously when shopping. The most important I do is to shop in bulk, especially for items like meat and canned goods. Since I know what dishes I’ve got planned for the next 8 weeks, I can stock up on items that are on sale and that I know I’ll need eventually. Sometimes all I need to do is a quick stop on Sunday afternoon to pick up fresh ingredients like greens and other vegetables.

Having the plan is also helping me cut down on compulsive shopping, especially for perishable items. There is less waste because I only buy what I will use for the meals I’ll be cooking the following Sunday.
