Keeping the Castle

Skunk Behavior

I have not seen another sign of that skunk I saw in the garden previously. No more night visits, as far as I could tell. And no newly-dug patches of grass, either. I suppose I should be glad. But I can’t help but wonder. Will skunks just go away on their own? I’ve talked with our neighbor again since my previous entry on this. We discussed the possibility of calling an exterminator. So far, I don’t know if somebody has come to take care of the creature.

I’ve seen other woodland beings go into that burrow under the shed. Little bunnies, about two or three of them. Can rabbits and skunks co-habitate? I wouldn’t want to be the rabbit sharing a skunk’s residence, but I don’t know enough, I guess.

Yike, a horrible thought just struck me. Is it “gone” because it’s on maternity leave?!? I surely hope not.

My parents have had skunks for years under one of their backyard sheds. My dad’s garden is more wild than tame and he thinks the skunks are part of the natural habitat. And he thinks it would be cruel to kill/evict the family. Now whenever I go home, I’m afraid to go look for stuff in the shed where all my old stuff is kept. And every few nights, the skunk musk will waft in for a while. Tolerable but not great.
