Some De-Cluttering Habits
Several years ago, I picked up an anti-clutter tip that I still try to practice today.
I dont go anywhere in my home empty-handed. When I move from one room to another, I try to look around and see whether theres anything that I could carry with me. A toy to be put back in the babys room. Clean laundry to be taken upstairs. Not going anywhere empty-handed helps me keep up with clutter, and saves me several trips up and down the stairs throughout the day.
As an offshoot of this habit, I developed another one. I leave things at the foot of our stairs. If, in the course of my daily routines, I see something that needs to be taken to the upstairs bedrooms, I put it on the stairs. When I go upstairs to do something, I pick that object up so that Im not empty-handed. Again, this saves me from going up and down the stairs just to put things away. Sometimes, I ask my husband to pick it up for me if hes going upstairs anyway. The trick is not to let stuff accumulate on the stairs, of course, so that they are clear at the end of the day.

Hey, that’s a pretty good tip!!!
I also play a little game with myself sometimes. I’ll go to a place where clutter is piling up and tell myself I’m going to put away 22 things. When I’ve done that, I do something else for a while.
Hi Melissa, I’m glad you like it. It has proven to be a very useful practice for me, and I hope it will be so for you too.
Hi Lei, Yes, I’ve heard of people doing that too. It helps when a seemingly huge task is broken down like that. Making it into a game makes it a bit more fun too.
