Stacy Julian’s Mudroom

Ever since I did my post about mudroom organization, I see inspiration almost everywhere. Stacy Julian, she of the clipboards and popsicle sticks chore management idea, posted photos of her mudroom in her blog. It’s not really a mudroom, but a space in her garage. She made it work for her and her family thus:

Some little things to note about her space:
1. The closets were made for her by a carpenter friend. You can probably find similar fixtures for sale, or follow her lead and find someone who can make it for you.
2. Each closet is labeled with a photo, one for each family member.
3. A bench is available for those who want to sit down while putting on their shoes.
4. The shoe cupboards are open, which makes it easier for kids to stash their shoes inside before going into the house.
5. A pegboard takes care of bags, umbrellas and other miscellaneous items.
6. The floor of the space is easy to clean and maintain.
7. A sign right beside the door says, “Mud Room, the dirt stops here”.
Now, before you think that she’s perfect and has everything together, and “how can I ever hope to be like her!?!”. (I admit I entertained those thoughts,
), here’s the other half of her garage, which Stacy has also graciously shared on her blog:

So, you see, home organization isn’t an all or nothing affair. For most of us, it’s a work in progress. This gives me encouragement that, even though I don’t have it all together, it’s OK! I hope you are inspired and encouraged by this as well.

I want that. My entire house is a mudroom at the moment. :p
I don’t love the white — but that is the type of mudroom I want; with the locker type shelving. That’s one of the rooms in my dream house — a nice muddy mud room and thus a cleaner house!
I love it! I really like the black and white floors and the white bench. Very nice.
What a beautiful and well organized mud room! My front door opens into my living room and the back into the dining room. How I dream of having a mudroom!!!
