Tips for Completing Dreaded Chores

Tips for Completing Dreaded Chores

There is a pile of ironing sitting in my laundry room.  It’s getting bigger and it feels like a huge weight each time I see it seeing there.  The problem is, I absolutely cannot stand to iron.  I think I would rather clean all of the bathrooms than iron.

Each of us has a certain chore that we just don’t like to do.  This has me thinking of some tips to help us accomplish these dreaded chores.  Hopefully, tomorrow I’ll get to put these tips to use.
1)  Reward yourself.  Tell yourself that after your chore is completed, you’ll do something nice …read more

Save Time with Bed Linens

Washing the sheets and blankets is definitely not one of my favorite household chores.  It has to be done though, so we might as well find a way to make it easier. There is a way that you can save time and make this task easier.

Many folks take off their sheets and put them into the laundry hamper.  Then they get out another set of sheets from the linen closet and put those on the bed.  Later, after they’ve washed the previous sheets, they fold them and put them back into the closet.  This seems like a lot of extra …read more

Tackle it Tuesday: Staying Afloat

Tackle it Tuesday: Staying Afloat

Wow.  The past few weeks have been crazy!  I hate the constant feeling of being overwhelmed, but that is where I am right now.
Last night we finished up our foster parenting classes.  Woohoo!  It’s been a long 10 weeks.  We have a small commute to the classes, so including travel time and such, we are gone on Monday nights for about 5 hours.  It is hard on the kiddos, especially since they have to go to school the next day.  We are also working on our adoption paperwork.
Here are a few things I’m working on today:

Here is a sink full …read more

Do You Take a Day of Rest?

Do You Take a Day of Rest?

I really enjoy my Sunday naps.  I look forward to the one day each week that I have a nap scheduled.  Christians, Catholics, and perhaps some other religions have found the importance of setting aside time each week to rest and recooperate.

Sometimes our lives are so busy with “stuff” that it’s hard to set aside time to relax.  I’ve realized that when I do set aside time from my regular household chores and schedule, that I feel more at ease and I’m not so stressed.
Do you take time out of each week from your household chores and schedule to rest?  Has this …read more

Getting the Kids Involved with the Laundry

We have talked a little about developing a laundry routine and I briefly mentioned getting the kids involved.  Let me say, I believe in kids being kids and enjoying their childhood, but I also believe in them helping out a bit.

Our younger children are 3 and 5, so we have asked them to do simple things such as bring all the laundry baskets to the laundry room, take the laundry baskets back to the rooms, and put away the socks that I have already folded.  My daughter is 5, so she sometimes asks if she can help fold washcloths or put …read more

Developing a Laundry Routine

A few days ago, I asked if you all had a laundry routine.  Some of you may only wash the laundry when there is nothing left to wear, some of you may have one day a week that you wash, and others of you may be on a schedule of washing one load each day.

I try to wash one load each day, but life happens.  Things don’t always go as planned.  I don’t always do one load of laundry every day.  It is important though to stay on top of this necessary chore or it will start mounting and seem impossible to …read more

Do You Have a Laundry Routine?

Do You Have a Laundry Routine?

Recently, we’ve talked a little about dishwashing tips.  We’ve discussed cleaning as you go, things to put in the dishwasher, the dishwashing brush which save me loads of time, and keeping up with the dishes.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be tackling another important household chore, the laundry.  I plan for us to talk about making a laundry routine, tips for stains, getting the kids involved, and other methods to make this task a bit easier.
In the meantime, I’d like to know . . . Do you have a laundry routine?  Do you have one day a week that you do …read more
