The Secret to a Clean Bathroom Counter

The bathroom counter is easily one of the most used surfaces in my home. The best way to keep it clean is to do a quick wipe everyday. That’s easy enough to say. But based on my experience, it’s not quite that quick to do, unless some things are done before wiping the counter down.
Here’s what I mean. Everyday, each person uses the following products, more or less:
hairbrush or comb
deodorant
toothbrush
toothpaste
razor
cologne/perfume
lotion/moisturizer
special items (contact lens solution, etc.)
That’s a total of 8, for just one person. Obviously, if they are all kept on the counter, it’s one big visual clutter, right? And, the counter is a pain to clean, because each item would need to be moved before the counter could be wiped.
If they are all kept under the counter, that would solve the clutter problem. But, for a long time, this could never work for us. I hated having to bend down 8 times to retrieve everything I needed every morning. It was a pain, literally.
The solution I found is still to keep the things under the counter, but also to keep them inside containers that were easy to pick up. Now, each person has a caddy much like this:

It contains everything that that person needs everyday. Each one has a place under the sink. It’s picked up once and put away once. The counter is clear of everything except a soap pump, and my husband’s electric razor (which is kept plugged in). Nothing is in the way of a truly quick and easy wipe down!

Great recommendation.
Maricar, I really like this idea and in fact worked something out similar for my daughters items. Do you have a plan for medicines? My son is currently on two different allergy pills, a sinus spray, an eye drop, an pill for acid reflux and of course the electric razor. I have given up on the idea of trying to put them in the medicine cabinet because he freaks when he can’t find them, and I get woken up an hour before I’m ready. I was thinking of a tray or something to contain everything of his that would sit on the counter? Any other suggestions?
I’m not worried about kids getting into them, as my youngest is nine and not a bit interested in his pills.
What a great idea! We use a caddy for our cleaning supplies but I never thought to use one for bathroom supplies.
Hi Tammy, we don’t have a medicine cabinet in any of our bathrooms. We keep our medicines in our kitchen instead, out of reach of little hands. I’d probably store the razor separate from the medicines. I’m using craft boxes for some organizing projects elsewhere, but they might work for you as well. You might have to hunt around for something that works for your space and the contents. Here’s a sample of some containers:

Hi Heather, it only made sense to me recently too.
