The TV Remote Rules

tv-remoteIt’s amazing how something that wasn’t even widely used 20 years ago now seems indispensable to everyday life. I’m talking about the TV remote.

A couple of days ago, we couldn’t find the remote (again!). We tossed the cushions, looked under the sofa, checked the dining table. My kids know it’s a magic gizmo that seemingly conjures fascinating moving images from an otherwise boring black box. The youngest has even been seen toddling around, with the TV remote in one hand and the DVD controller in the other. So we looked in the toy bin too. But the remote wasn’t even there. My husband couldn’t watch a show without it! (hmmm, there’s an idea. ;) ).

While we did eventually find it (I think it was sitting right on the kitchen counter, in plain sight), it’s one of the things I’d like to find a permanent solution to. I’d like to think that having a designated spot for it (we do!) ensures that we’ll always find it. Nah. Even with a perfectly lovely home near the TV, it’s still the most often misplaced item in our house. Any suggestions?

My friend had her house professionally done by an interior designer and she had a beautiful container on her coffee table that they had bought from TJ Maxx. I opened it up and inside were the remotes. I decided to do that over in our house. I got a pretty woven basket that was deep enough to stash forty remotes :) Now we know right where the remotes are, but they aren’t strewn all over the house.

    I hope that helps!
