The Uses of Aluminum Foil

Aluminum foil is such a common item that we don’t think much about it. It’s good for many uses though:
1. Save on clean-up time by lining a broiling pan with foil.
2. When seasoning meat for grilling, place a sheet of foil on a cutting board, place the meat on it, and add seasonings before grilling. The cutting board will remain clean. Crumple up the foil and use it to clean the grill afterwards.
3. Use foil to wrap seasoned fish and vegetables for baking.
4. Place foil on top of a grill to prevent small items like vegetables from slipping between the grills.
5. Wrap the edges of pie crusts with strips of foil to prevent over-browning.
6. Line the inside of the oven for easy cleanup after baking.
Here are some do’s and don’t’s when using aluminum foil:
1. Don’t worry about shiny side or dull side when cooking.
2. Coat foil with a cooking spray before putting it over a dish like lasagna to keep the cheese from sticking.
3. Don’t use foil to wrap items for the freezer. It isn’t air-tight.
4. Don’t use foil to wrap acidic food, like tomatoes or onions. The acids in these items react with the metal in foil.
