Tips for a Greener Kitchen

We can all do our part to help save the environment. Sometimes, even the simplest steps in our own kitchen can have a big impact. Here are some tips to make your kitchen more environmentally-friendly:
* Don’t microwave food or beverages in plastic containers. The less plastic you use, the better for the environment. Besides, microwaving plastic releases some of its chemicals into your food.
* Buy honey from local sources. Local honey industries indirectly support small farmers who depend on bees for pollinating their crops.
* Eat more unprocessed foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables. The processing of food uses up a lot of energy. Eating fresh lessens your impact on the environment and helps keep you healthy too.
* Avoid using the faucet at full blast. A low to medium water flow is sufficient for most tasks.
* If your current model is due for replacement, get a fridge with a freezer on the bottom. Since cold air moves downward, having the freezer at the bottom is more efficient.
* Fill the freezer. A nearly-full freezer uses less energy to maintain its temperature.

We all need to do our part. We inherited this together.
Thanks for the tips.
I’ve also read that when you’re cleaning gunk off dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, it’s more efficient to fill the sink with water and use what’s there rather than letting the faucet continue to run while you’re working.
Thanks for that tip too, Lindsay!
