Saving the Wishbone

It seems that we have always taken the “Wishbone” from the turkey each year and hung it over one of the cupboard door knobs to dry. And then, a few months later, someone would remember it, grab it and then find someone to help them make their wish come true. It’s all kind of fuzzy at the moment. We don’t even think about it anymore. Does anyone out there save wishbones?? Seems to me that I remember hearing a story years ago about a family that saved all of their wishbones each holiday and stored them in the attic. I wish I could remember more of that story. So, tell us your wishbone traditions!!

Getting In a Little Exercise

It might be a good idea to try and work a little exercise into your day starting now! From this day forward, we will be tempted like never before. Already we are sampling goodies… like eggnog coffee… and about a week ago, I had this amazing gingerbread latte. I don’t even want to think about the calories, let alone the sugar content. But, back to the exercise part. If we want to stay healthy, let alone fit into our clothes, there’s just no getting around it. But if you are already groaning, I’m going to start you off small. Pull on some warm clothes and take a walk around the neighborhood. That’s what I’m going to do this afternoon, to check out the Christmas decorations. Yes, my neighbors love Christmas almost as much as me. And, it will take my mind off the Root Canal that I have tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes, so be sure to come back. Really nice for Thanksgiving Week don’t you think lol!

*And yes, for those of you who are wondering… I’m up in Canada and our dentists are quite happy to work on your Thanksgiving! Well, if nothing else, I will get it done and out of the way before Christmas arrives.

Your Thanksgiving Menu

The Thanksgiving menu that I grew up has changed over the years… primarily because I married an Englishman who brought a lot of his holiday dishes with him. No, he never celebrated Thanksgiving in England, so we pretty much have two British Christmas dinners, except for the traditional dishes that I want included. So, that’s my question to you today… has your traditional menu changed from what it once was?? And tell us your favorite dish and the one you really can’t stand. For me, its brussel sprouts. They are horrid, but my kids out-vote me every time. Can you imagine… kids who love brussel sprouts?? And neither of them like pumpkin pie! Something definitely wrong with their taste buds! So, tell us about your menu!!

What’s Your Plans for Thanksgiving?

I’m kind of torn with this one, so I’m throwing it out to you. If you had the chance to eat Thanksgiving dinner in a restaurant, would you do it, or do you love everything connected with making your own dinner? Or perhaps you visit family for Thanksgiving Dinner each year. It certainly makes it a lot easier if everyone brings a dish. We have already had our Thanksgiving up here in Canada… actually, we had two of them and it just doesn’t get any better than that. We had a traditional Canadian Thanksgiving and then we had a British/Polish/Canadian Thanksgiving. But seeing that we are being transferred to Chicago, we just might give yours a try. I can handle three Thanksgivings!

What Am I Thankful For??

This would not only be fun to do, it would give everyone something to do while dinner is cooking. And, you don’t really have to do very much at all, which would be a switch now wouldn’t it lol… Okay, you have one thing to do… provide a basket, some slips of paper and some pens. Now instruct everyone to write down what they are grateful for, after informing everyone that these will be read around the table during dinner. Each piece of paper can be signed or not, but definitely dated so some of the special ones can be brought out and re-read years later. The idea of doing this before sitting down to dinner prevents anyone from being put on the spot. And don’t forget the kids. Ask them what they are thankful for too.
