Keeping the Castle

Vintage Linens

vintage linen

My mom bought a vintage hand-embroidered tablecloth at a garage sale. It got me thinking about the hours and effort that have gone into making such beautiful pieces of art. Unlike today, our grandmothers and great-grandmothers used to make all their own curtains, handkerchiefs, bedspreads and other linen. It would a shame if their effort goes to waste after all these years.

If you have pieces of vintage linen and are not sure how to use them, there are ways to incorporate them into your home decor.

Use them as window treatments. Make throw pillows out of embroidered pieces. Make wall hangings. Incorporate them into quilts. Make tablecloths. Even if the patterns don’t match exactly, as long as the colors and fabrics complement, a set of napkins made from different vintage cloths would look wonderful in a summer setting.

Be creative, and enjoy these pieces of the past.
