Washing Machine Update
Laundry Hill is now Laundry Mountain, thanks (or no thanks?) to my broken washing machine.
Oh, wait, it’s not exactly broken. The service guy came yesterday, and after more than 30 minutes of thumb-twiddling and attempts at small talk, the pool of water finally made its appearance again. And I was beginning to think that the thing had fixed itself spontaneously (haha, dream on). The verdict… a leaking drain pipe.
Water wasn’t gushing out as much as it was drip-drip-dripping, so it took a while before the edge of the pool made its way to where we can see it. Service Guy will order the piece, give me a call, and come back to fix it early next week.
Next week!?!?
I’m having anxiety attacks already, thinking about how much dirty laundry we’ll have by then. We might be able to last, but I also imagine we’ll just go to the public laundromat this weekend. I’m not looking forward to that at all. I’m already counting the hours the trip will consume. How safe is it to leave one’s clothes at the laundromat to do something else (like cooking or whatever else one does while doing the laundry at home)? I might come back and find all our clothes gone or something. Not a happy thought at all.
It’s been years since I’ve done the laundry and not multi-tasked. Maybe I can bring a book or even write a book (!) while there. I could call the book “The Laundry Diaries”.

If you are worried about multi-tasking, then find a laundromat that offers drop-off service and pay the extra cash.
If you are worried about people stealing your laundry when you leave it in the laundromat unattended, then find a friend and use their home machine.
Please be courteous and mindful of other people’s time at the laundromat. I too have other errands I’d like to get done. Even if “everybody else” leaves their laundry 5-10 minutes past the cycle end, it isn’t right.
I was thinking about it, and maybe I’ll just relish the chance not to multi-task at all!
I agree with you about people leaving their laundry in the machines. When I was a student, I saw a lot of that, and quite a few incidents of others taking the unattended laundry out and dumping them on the floor.
I plan to wash our clothes as quickly as I can while enjoying the time with just one thing to do.
