James Massara, Water Superintendent of Hammonton, New Jersey, offers some tips for conserving water during everyday household use. Mr. Massara knows what he’s talking about. Keeping statistics on water usage is part of his job.
- Keep your showers under under five minutes to save up to 1,000 gallons a month.
- Wash only full loads of laundry to save up to 600 gallons of water each month.
- Turn off the water while you brush your teeth to save 4 gallons a minute.
- Use the garbage disposal less often.
- Soak pots, pans and grills before you wash them.
I didn’t realize that pre-soaking saves water, but it DOES beat scrubbing food residues under running water.
