We will be staying home tonight, perhaps playing a game or watching a movie (White Christmas? Holiday Inn?) but definitely drinking coffee. If you want something a little more special that “just coffee” check out some of these-
1. Irish Coffee, a classic.
3. Spiced Coffee- if you like Chai give this a try. Similar tastes.
1c milk
1 tbs cardamom
1 stick cinnamon
2-3 cloves
2-3 black peppercorns
1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
2 1/2 c espresso or strong coffee
1 c half and half
Bring milk to simmer. Add spices, remove from heat and cover. Let steep for 10 minutes. Strain.
Heat half and half to a simmer. (or steam it if you have the equipment, I don’t)
Put half and half in a blender and blend until foamy and almost doubled.
Stop blender and add 3 TBS sugar. Blend quickly.
Mix coffee and milk. Pour into cups to fill halfway. Finish with steamed half and half. Grate nutmeg over top.
Happy New Year from our house to yours!

Once I get my espresso maker figured out and ready to go, I’ll be trying these drinks. Any recommendations on cheap grinders that grind finely enough for espresso? I was told to buy a Capresso Infinity Conical Burr grinder, but I’m hoping there was something less than $90. The $15 and $30 ones I bought grinded too coarsely.
Happy New Year!!
Carla-
