Coffee Shop Makes National Register of Historic Places

 Glacier National Park

When you think of the National register of Historic places you think of Independence Hall, Plimouth Plantation, The cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born….or at least I do.  Places that are historically significant in some way should be on there!

Right?

Well, the Lake McDonald Lodge Coffee Shop  has been added to that list of important places.  Built in 1965 it is part of Lake McDonald Lodge at Glacier National Park.

First of all…I think it is cool but I am not sure that i feel like 1965 is a particularly historically significant year.  I started kindergarten….I learned to tie my shoes…I think I was in my cousin’s wedding as a flower girl (or was that ‘63?).

Surely something that is five years youger than I am cannot be historially significant? Please?

The lodge is beautiful, built in a Swiss chalet style.  You can see images here.

I wouldn’t mind drinking coffee there….for the rest of my life…

Actually, it can be significant. If we felt that things after we were born aren’t significatnt then, that means nothing from that time would be preserved unless it had reached 100 years old or 200 years old. In that case, what would be left? So if we think ahead and preserve it early enough, maybe it will be in really great original shape when it is 100 years old. I’m all for it. Not every home needs preserving, but sure how about a few things in our National Parks.

Good point…I t hink I am just not ready to have something younger than me be considered historic.I am just getting used to presidents, police officers and doctors ebing younger than me… :P

But Marye, you too can be historically significant…think forty years from now. Someone finds an old computer, turns it on, and up pops your site! Viola! There you are! I’m with you on the same age thing or less…it makes me feel old and worn out…lol!

I am thinking that 40 years from now computers will be obscure.

and I will probably still be blogging…only noone will tell me that I am not really uploading anything..and I will be too senile to notice. ;)
