Coffee Slows Liver Damage

October 26, 2009 by Marye Audet

There is some indication that coffee slows liver damage from hepatitis according to the Reuters report I read this afternoon. In a study of 766 people with hepatitis-c related liver damage the coffee drinkers who ingested at least three cups of coffee per day had a 53 percent less chance of the progression of damage over a four year period of time than those who drank less coffee or none at all.

Interesting to note that coffee drinkers seem to have healthier livers over all according to the same report.

So, you want to detox? You probably need to just drink more coffee!

Coffee is very bad for HCV infected. First it will dehydrate you secondly it will raise your insuline levels which will make your meds (the interferon) useless. The quoted research of the halt-c project was very poorly and consists mainly of a questionaire. No double blind research nothing. A coffee hype is all thats left.

AH..but of all the hype out there…coffee hype is my favorite

That would be funny if peoples lives wouldn’t depend on it. The treatment against HCV means a sort of chemo therapy with awful crippling side effects that can take up to 72 weeks. If that fails because some stupid nitwit says coffee is good for you when it isn’t than thats no joke.

I really want to read an up to date list of what all of the studies say are good and bad about coffee. However, I have a feeling that I’d have to write the list if I want to read it and it sounds like a lot of work.

It is sort of strange how I can drink a cup of coffee and fall right to sleep, but when I drink it in the morning it seems to wake me up. Maybe caffeine doesn’t have much of an effect on me.
