Coffee & Tea Resolutions for 2009

I love New Year’s Day. I am always ready for Christmas to be over (more so this year than usual) and move on into the clean slate of the new year. I was up very late last night/this morning working on some last minute deadlines and finally dragged myself into the bed at 4 a.m. So I am laying here,in the warmth of the flannel sheets, sunlight streaming into my bedroom, sipping the last of my cup of coffee and thinking of the year that lays ahead.
It is a good day to do that. It is transition time, nothing happening one way or another for most people. A chance to consider and reflect.
Odd as it may sound one of my resolutions for 2009 is to take care of me. The thought frightens me in many ways because I am afraid that people will think I am selfish and when I was growing up selfishness was the unpardonable sin. I have had to struggle to find the middle ground where taking care of yourself is good.
Because you know what? If you are totally selfless all the time you teach your family to be selfish. There has to be balance and boundaries.
So, on that note of philosophical thought here are my coffee and tea goals for 2009:
- Get a coffee roaster
- Try one new type of bean at least monthly
- Try a new tea monthly
- Tea and antiquing at least once every other month
- Buy a beautiful antique tea set this year..something unusual
- Take a 30 minute tea break daily to recoup
- Decide if I really want to do teas for people in their homes or not. I have been kicking that idea around far too long and I need to either do it or admit that it doesn’t interest me and let it go.
- Write and photograph the tea/coffee devotional that I have wanted to do for a year. Get the guts to send it to a publisher
So, there you have it. For now, for today those are my 2009 goals. I will let you know how I do.
What are you doing today? Recouperating from last night or just hanging out?

Those sound like very reasonable, even noble goals. It certainly is not selfish to take care of oneself…though, I was raised much as you are and had the bad example of a mother who always put herself last.
Where will you begin to look for such a tea set?
much as you were…unless you are still being raised… ;>
“If you are totally selfless all the time you teach your family to be selfish. There has to be balance and boundaries.”
Having learned this the hard way…I agree you need to take take of yourself.
Vee…I am going to keep an eye on ebay
Ginger..I know you have..so have I
I like the idea of trying a new tea every month and I think that it’s a perfect resolution to take care of yourself. We don’t do that nearly enough. I’m going to borrow some of your ideas! Glad I stopped by
Glad you did too!
Happy New Year Marye and all your readers.
I am interested in your decision to doing teas in others homes. I have opened up a tea salon in my home and I have been wondering if I want to do teas for other outside the salon myself. Let me know what you have decided.
I won’t decide for awhile I am pretty busy right now. It would be basically like being a personal chef only with teas.
I’m going to bake more often! I’m always too disappointed in bought desserts. Besides, I love to bake anyway. And that goes with tea.
I’m also trying to drink Celestial Seasonings if I do bag instead of loose tea. They have much less packaging to deal with. Those little tea packets are a pain to deal with in recycling.
That’s a great idea Peggy!
