Cold Brew Coffee

What is cold brew coffee?

It is just coffee that you put in water and leave in the fridge overnight.  It makes a great concentrate to use in recipes, coffee drinks, or ice cubes.

Cold brewed coffee supposedly gives you all the coffee flavor without any possible bitterness. It’s a longer process than brewing a hot cup, and so you will have to soothe yourself with some other form of caffeine (chewing coffee beans?) while you are waiting for this to be done…

10 cups of cold water

1 lb coffee ground on a medium grind

Place ground coffee in a large glass or plastic container. Pour water over coffee. Refrigerate container for 12 to 24 hours.

Strain elixir through a coffee filter two or three times to make sure no grounds remain.

Refrigerate and use as needed. Makes 6 cups of cold-brew concentrate.

Use 1/4 cup cold brew to 1 cup of water for iced coffee

So, as far as how many cups of coffee this makes , how does it compare with making coffee in a coffee maker? How long does the cold brew stay good?

At first glance it would appear that you aren’t getting as much coffee that way, though honestly, i have never worried about how many cups I get out of a pound before reading about this.

  2. This is great to know about, Marye. We don’t use a lot of ice, but I like cold drinks, and iced coffee was always a conundrum for me.

    Hmmm, looks interesting…

Did you tell us everything? Do we get to add more water?

  4. Marye says:

It is very concentrated. You use 1/4 cup of the concentrate per cup of water for coffee. It will stay good for up to a week in the fridge…
Mostly it is for iced coffee drinks and shakes…
