Earl Grey Lavender Tea…Hmmmm…

I am blog surfing this morning with a cup of (R)evolution Earl Grey Lavender tea in my hand.
I have to admit that I prefer the numerous variations of Earl Grey over the classic brew, which almost always tastes a bit insipid and boring.
This particular Earl Grey I have mixed feeling about..let me explain.
As it was steeping the scent absolutely engulfed the room. It was intoxicating black tea-citrus-y-flowery-lavendery.
I tasted it first with no sweetener. I was very disappointed in the lack of body to the tea, the very diluted taste. I added sugar and the taste matched the aroma a bit more. There was the classic black tea flavor..followed by citrus…followed by that almost citrus lavender taste…mmm…I liked it…and then…
Then my entire mouth dried out like I had sipped acorn juice. I really dislike that feeling. And the more I drank the weirder my mouth felt.
I won’t buy this again. According to the company it has won an award..but I have a couple of goats that have won Grand Champion awards and they wouldn’t make a good tea either…
I have had good Earl Grey Lavender before..this just doesn’t happen to be one of them.
So, for a recap..initially the flavor is excellent and if you don’t mind the tannins then go for it. Other than that…Find an Earl Grey you like and add lavender flowers and lemon peel to it…
I will be using the rest of this very fragrant tea to smoke chicken.

Thanks for the warning to stay away becuase I have always wondered about this tea! I’ll steer clear.
Cathy- there are better combos…Personally I just use an Earl Grey I like and add my own lavender to taste. Lemon peel really is a nice addition to it.
