Got Coffee? MotorTrend Says Don’t Travel

How many adult sippy cups do you see at driver’s mouths on the way to work in the morning? I am guessing a lot. So is MotorTrend magazine, which has stated that coffee is at the top of the list of foods to avoid while driving.

Why? Because even with the tiny slit the hot liquid can splash and burn, or spill and scald. Ever try to make a safe lane change when your crotch is being boiled? See?

They state that the coffee can splash when you hit a bump.  I am more concerned with the lead- foot that comes with a caffeine high.

Personally I think that a camelback water thingie like my husband uses for mountain biking is the answer.  Think of it ..you could fill it with a pot of coffee, put the drink straw dealie-ma-jig in your mouth and away you go…your only concern would be the caffeine-high-lead-foot aspect.

Starbucks could start a whole new trend and begin taking over small gas stations..you could pull up to the pump and have your camelback refilled… “Would you like your sunglasses cleaned with that, sir?”

Hey, even Bill Gates started with an idea…

Here is Motor Trend’s whole list. Do you agree with everything on it?

Wondering if the people that are drinking coffee while driving are the same people texting. I’ll admit to drinking coffee while I’m in the car, but while I’m stuck at the millions of stop lights around here.

I really like the camelback idea. I was about to buy one for my mountain bike adventures, but it sounds like I should just keep using water bottles for that, and use the camelback for my commute.

My coffee has to be cool enough for me to chug without burning myself, and thus ignore the possible spillage. I’m more dangerous at 5 am without the caffeine! The texters are the REAL hazards. what part of ‘eyes on the road’ they don’t get is beyond me.

I agree Kim. Of course, when I was a teenager there was no texting issue..I had perfected the art of changing from work clothes to disco clothes, setting my hair on hot rollers and doing my makeup while driving down Northwest Highway/Central Expressway. Ahhh…good times.

Okay, but with the camelback instead of burning your tongue, you risk doing serious damage to your throat – which is why hot liquids don’t usually come with straws…..
