So you all ready know from this post, that I like Honor Grounds coffee, and was impressed with the company.

And if you have read here very long you know that I dislike decaf coffee because it tastes watery and insipid to me. Something like cleaning up spilled coffee, wringing the rag out in a coffee cup and microwaving it…

I really liked this coffee, and that totally surprised me. Totally.

The aroma was that country coffee smell that you really want to wake up to. The coffee was dark..you could not see the bottom of the cup.

I took the first sip, black, and the flavor was intense.. sort of a fruity- cherry- tobacco- vanilla flavor.

WHAT?

I looked at Marc. “It tastes the way my Uncle’s pipe used to smell.”

Everyone looked at me like I was nuts. Then my oldest daughter tasted it. She had been around my Uncle briefly when she was 3 years old. Of all she remembered from that visit she recalled the cuckoo clock and his pipe. Her eyes lit up…”It DOES!”

So, this decaf gets a full 5 stars from me. If this is decaf from them I cannot wait to try their regular and dark roasts. Reminiscent of a Guatemalan Single Origin, this coffee has definite flavors of sweet tobacco, cherry-vanilla that lingers in a good way.

It takes heavy cream and sugar well, and mellows down to a Breyer’s coffee ice cream flavor when those are added. Very mellow.

I am not sure how they did it. A decaf you can love.

Wow, that is something to blog about because finding a decaf you can love is hard to do!

There are some great decafs out there! Ugly Mug is one. Stumptown Coffee Roasters is another. Caribou isn’t bad either.

I only drink decaf, but I sometimes sip caf.

NP- Seriously!! I KNOW! I mean I have hated decaf for over 20 years and this one is good! In fact it is better than the regular coffee, altho not better than the dark roast.

  4. Marye says:

Peggy I am not familiar with any but Caribou..I just am not keen on dcaf.

    Hi marye,
Thanks for your visit & kind comment today at my blog.

I’m a decaf drinker out of necessity, so I hope you’ll still be my friend. :)

  6. That sounds delicious. I’m not a huge decaf fan, either. Hmmm… my daughter is in New England. Perhaps she can find some for me.

This post brought a smile to my face. For the life of me, I can’t remember who (in my childhood) smoked a pipe but I remember LOVING the aroma.

  7. Marye says:

LOL! Brenda…see just the smell takes you back.

  8. Peggy says:

Yeah, I have to drink decaf too. There are some good ones out there. Just have to look for them.

  9. Marye says:

Lyn- hey, we don;t have to agree..you are certainly entitled to your OPINION… ;)
I’ll keep a pot of decaf on for ya.

  10. Marye says:

Peggy…have you tried any organic decafs that you like?

  11. Peggy says:

    Marye,

Yes, Trapper Creek Decaf from Stumptown Coffee Roasters out of Portland, OR.

I believe Archer Farms at Target also has organic decaf that’s passing. Stumptown is my favorite though.

  12. Marye says:

I do like the archer farms products.. :) I have a friend who has to do decaf, so I will look into it..I try to keep it around..Thanks Peggy!
