Just Keep Your Legs Crossed…Forever

I want you to know, dear readers, that I have checked my facts on this. More than once. It is apparently true, or at least a very good possibility.
The caffeine in your pee is bleaching the coral reefs.

Apparently the cleaning process that wastewater goes through at sewage plants does not effectively get the caffeine out of our personal wastewater. It leaves up to three percent of our caffeine out-go in the cleansed water. The water is released into the environment and finds it’s way into the ocean.
Well caffeine in the ocean apparently means more than buzzing tuna. Yep. Apparently the caffeine kills off the algae that has a symbotic relationship with the coral (that means they are buds) and gives coral its color.
You can read more about it here.
So what is the solution going to be? I mean, should the government outlaw caffeine consumption? Can Monsanto come up with a genetically engineered coral that withstands the onslaught of caffeinated pee? Will Will and Grace ever come back to television?
I want you to know that I grew up in a home of green freaks before it was cool. In the 60s my family was all about recycling, sustainable living, and cutting back on pollution. My first babysitting job momey went to a Save the Wild Horses campaign. But….once again..is this not a bit overboard? Seriously?
Maybe they could just collect the wastewater and create a new energy drink.

Caffeine free soda is just fine by me. Hansen’s is better than Coke any day. Although I’d be hard pressed to give up coffee…
Wow. I love beautiful pink and purple coral, but I don’t think I can do without my 3 cups of tea a day.
A bit far…I think the result of this test are highly suspect!
resultS
Fern – LOVE Hansons! The local store had it on sale a few weeks ago. Yum.
Katelyn- LOL! I know, right?
Vee- I wonder if they were drinking coffee when they did the tests?
Well that was just plain weird! Not your post, but the fact that they would suspect caffeinated pee of bleaching coral. I don’t even want to know how they came to THAT conclusion!
But Marye, as always you’ve given us, your readers, something interesting to think about.
I guess now they’ll try to put the fungi on the endangered list and we the tax payers will be paying for that too!
What is this world coming to?
Guess Starbuck’s better start planning how they’ll bootleg coffee beans :0!
Ok, true or untrue. That was a hoot. Thanks for keeping me laughing Marye!
