Kettle and Cup

Kohana Panama

This is Marc’s and my favorite coffee from Kohana Coffee so far.

Kohana Panama is silky smooth with  flavors of smoky cinnamon toast and rose.

The one thing I can say about Kohana coffee, at least so far, is that the coffee is unique. I think at this point I could pick out a cup of Kohana in a blind taste test.  The aroma is smokey and slightly exotic…You guys know how weird I am when it comes to personifying coffee, right? Well this coffee is a mysterious, wealthy traveler on the Orient Express. Very Art Deco. Miss Scarlet in a game of Clue.

Panama is a coffee for curling up in a comfy, slightly faded chintz chair, by a fireplace on a chilly autumn day. Pair it with a good mystery and slice of fresh brioche, toasted and  slathered with butter.

On the Marye Coffee Scale Kohana Panama gets a 4.75 out of a possible 5. I love the uniqueness of this coffee.

Marye, we agree – the Panama has slowly risen to the top in our poll as well. Not sure why as we fall in love with every coffee we choose for Kohana for different reasons. Bottom line is that they have to be memorable in the cup – besides that every person on our team has requirements that have to be met (i.e. roast profile perfect, smooth not bitter, origin character and nuance, different body, acidity, dry and wet aromas…the list goes on and on).

We feel the coffee farms in Panama produce some of the world’s best coffees. Yes, this one is smokey and ideal for our Kohana’s darker roast; it’s full bodied with pleasant acidity. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned before but because we’re buying such high end beans we’re very careful not to over roast – trying to coax every little nuance out of what makes that origin so appealing rather than creating more of a roast flavor. I think we’ve done it with the Kohana Panama.

Thank you for the great review!

I really like this description and how you personified it…I think I could almost taste it.

But what’s up with the spilled coffee? That’s like coffee abuse!

I know..but I wanted something different..I mean how many ways can you show a cup of coffee? Coffee blogs are like the only blogs you can use the same image every day..
