Mrs Oleson! What Are YOU Doing Here?

I have tried hard not to comment on this.

I have tried hard not to comment on this.

I have tried hard not to comment on this.

I have……

Aaawww, junk.  I can’t do it.

If you haven’t heard, Starbucks will set coffee technology back fifty years next week and unveil its own instant coffee.

Yep.  Serious.  I half expect to hear that Gordon Ramsey is going to start serving Happy Meals. Mrs. Olson will be pleased to note that Starbucks has created an “Instant Coffee that replicates the flavor of Starbucks Coffee”…and only twenty years in the making.

I almost can’t talk about this because the possibilities for humor at Starbuck’s expense are so darn tempting.

It is like watching someone drowning, you know, or ….hmm…have you ever seen a 50 year old woman dressed in an outfit that a fifteen year old should be wearing?  That grasping state of being is the essence of Starbucks right now.  Rather than just bow out gracefully, accept the fact that they are no longer cutting edge and open the doors for the next big culture explosion, Starbucks seems to need to grasp at whatever it can like Cher clutching the plastic surgeon’s business card.

In honor of Starbucks newest folly I have to ask.  Do they know about flavor buds?

  1. Vee says:

In tough economic times, those expensive cups of coffee go first, but instant coffee? Oh my! You showed great restraint and good humor. I’d like to get a review of the instant, though, just for fun. ;D

  2. Sharon says:

Please tell us what you think of the new instant coffee. Maybe its better than Folgers….

  3. Marye says:

    Vee…..no instant coffee for me.

Sharon..I probably will not be tasting it. Instant coffee should only be carried in one’s purse during airline and sea travel for the possibility that one would become a castaway on a remote island sans coffee.

  4. Ginger says:

::::shaking my head:::: they just don’t get it , do they?

  5. Peggy says:

Marye, is this worse than the breakfast combos they are going to start offering?

  6. Marye says:

    Ginger..nope

Peggy, not really. I expect them to put a giant clown head at the drive through next…since Jack in the Box no longer uses it.

  7. Beth says:

I think this is bad. Really, really bad. Why would they do such a thing? To save money? To save on cost? This just isn’t right. I hope that the prices don’t remain the same or go up. You couldn’t get me to drink instant.

  8. Marye says:

They are not going to serve it in the cafes, just have it available to sell.
