Kettle and Cup

Starbucks Espresso Chocolate Truffle Hot Chocolate

I had the new Starbucks Espresso Turffle Hot Chocolate today.   It was introduced on November 4th along with two other new hot chocolate drinks…

So, how does it hold up to the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate?

I liked it but not as much as the salted caramel hot chocolate.  The chocolate that they use is the same as the others but this is not rich, nor creamy. The texture is more like coffee and less like hot chocolate.  The espresso flavor is definitely there..as is the chocolate but it leans to coffee flavor more.  The whipped cream is topped with tiny curls of bittersweet chocolate.  It is a beautiful presentation.

If you like the combination of espresso and chocolate and if the other hot chocolates were too rich for you then this may be exactly what you are looking for.  If you are looking for a rich, creamy, chocolatey drink with the nuance of espresso then this is not it.

I forgot the camera so you will just have to imagine the cup topped with whipped cream and chocolate curls!

The Salted Caramel grabbed my attention when I spotted it last week, but I think that this one sounds even better. Next time I’m going to actually sit down and try one of them. Maybe I will take my daughter with me. She can order the other one so we get to sample both. ;)

I tried the peppermint mocha last night. Did you know they put PEPPERMINT whipped cream on top??? Oh wow. I just wanted a whole cup of that. Forget the espresso. LOL! Just a cup and a spoon of peppermint whipped cream.

(still haven’t tried the salted caramel – the espresso chocolate truffle may be more my speed)

As a coffee I liked it. It wasn’t so sweet as the mocha.

  5. Marye says:

That is what I thought Ginger, I don’t think they should categorize it in with the chocolate at all.

  6. Ginger says:

It wasn’t among the hot chocolates at my starbucks. It was with the expresso drinks.

you can make it an espresso truffle salted caramel hot chocolate. not knowing about the new espresso truffle, i ordered the salted caramel hot chocolate and asked them to add a shot of espresso for the extra 50 (or 55?) cents. the barista told me that next time, i can just say espresso truffle with salted caramel hot chocolate. hehehe i was happy =D
