Personally I have my own method for using coffee to lessen the pain of working out. I stare intently at the machines, pick up my coffee cup, and walk away. So I can personally attest to the fact that coffee has helped me overcome any workout pain.

Anyway, apparently caffeine keeps the nerves from registering a certain amount of pain. This means that you can work out more, and ignore that nagging pain better. Whiskey will do the same thing but most people frown on using that method at five in the morning… So, it’s important to drink as much caffeinated coffee as possible to keep those workouts going.

The caffeine in your pee is bleaching the coral reefs.

Apparently the cleaning process that wastewater goes through at sewage plants does not effectively get the caffeine out of our personal wastewater. It leaves up to three percent of our caffeine out-go in the cleansed water. The water is released into the environment and finds it’s way into the ocean.

Well caffeine in the ocean apparently means more than buzzing tuna. Yep. Apparently the caffeine kills off the algae that has a symbotic relationship with the coral (that means they are buds) and gives coral its color.

You can read more about it here.

So what is the solution going to be? I mean, should the government outlaw caffeine consumption? Can Monsanto come up with a genetically engineered coral that withstands the onslaught of caffeinated pee? Will Will and Grace ever come back to television?

I want you to know that I grew up in a home of green freaks before it was cool. In the 60s my family was all about recycling, sustainable living, and cutting back on pollution. My first babysitting job momey went to a Save the Wild Horses campaign. But….once again..is this not a bit overboard? Seriously?

Maybe they could just collect the wastewater and create a new energy drink.

About three this morning I heard one of the goats going nuts and so I went out to check it out. When I came in a little over an hour and a half later, I smelled like goat and we had added FOUR baby goats to our farm.. Thank God for solar powered lights in the barn.

I think on is a female and the rest male. The light was too dim for me to see properly. I will get pictures and share them later because, seriously, these tiny baby goats are adorable. FOUR. Twins are normal, and triplets are not unknown but four? What an overachiever that girl is!

Anyway, as I came in the house, cold, smelly, wet, and shivering, I realized that there was coffee in my cupboards and I could drink it.

I don’t think there is anything as nice as coffee when you are chilled and tired, and have been playing midwife to a goat for over an hour and a half. I have to get breakfast now, and in a little bit I am going to take a nap, but right now? mmmm..the coffee is brewing, the house is warm, and there is nothing quite like coffee under those circumstances. I am off to sip my coffee and make breakfast..I will be back on later.

Hey, enjoy your Saturday!

If you remember that Irish Spring commercial then you are old.
I remember it.
Ahem….Anyway the University of Barcelona has done a study on the effects of a strong cup of coffee on men and women.
For the study they used 668 volunteers. This is odd. Why not 670? 665? Nope. 668. Healthy volunteers.
And I think it was weird they felt the need to say “healthy volunteers.” I mean who chooses sick people to test coffee?

They gave volunteers espressos, one containing 100 mgs of caffeine and one containing 5 mgs and men reacted more strongly to women to the 100 mgs. The researchers [...]
Post from: Kettle and Cup

I refuse to make a comment about that.

Anyway, interesting study. Now, could someone explain to me why in the world someone needed to get some sort of grant to fund a study to find out information that no one needs?

YAY!
According to researchers having two to three cups of coffee a day reduces, or delays the risk of breast cancer depending on the gene variant a woman has.
The research was done on over 460 breast cancer patients. Researchers found that coffee was related to the female sex hormones and that coffee alters the female metabolism so that a woman acquires a better configuration of estrogens.
Caffeine has also been found to slow the growth of cancer cells.
